You might be asking yourself if there’s such a thing as work life balance and I’m here to tell you that there is.
We live in a culture that is constantly overworked and telling us that in order to achieve our goals we need to put in the work no matter the cost. Did you know that in the U.S., 85.8 percent of males and 66.5 percent of females work more than 40 hours per week? It’s no wonder that many of us don’t know what a balanced life looks like!
Part of the entrepreneurial journey is to live a life of purpose and intention which means learning to listen to our bodies and giving ourselves the ability to take time to recharge. It’s important that you know that work and life balance look different for each of us. Comparing ourselves to someone else’s daily schedule won’t leave us feeling good – do what feels good to YOU. Here at Urbanpreneur we believe that there are a few rituals that you can put in place to live a more fulfilling life both in business and in your personal lives.
Here are 5 Tips that will keep you in check and help you start achieving a better work-life balance:
1. Schedule Alone Time into Your Calendar
How many times do we get caught up in a whirlwind of “to-do’s” and forget to have a moment to destress? It happens to the best of us if we don’t pencil it in. My advice is to make sure you block some time on your calendar as “alone time” and this will help you keep it a priority during the week. Keep in mind that alone-time can mean anything from taking a walk to committing to working-out every week or something as small as grabbing a coffee and book on a Saturday morning. The more you commit to doing this, the more you will feel rejuvenated. We all need time alone to recharge and catch our breath. Trust me, this ritual will pay-off in
2. Learn to say no.
According to a recent article (read) in the New York Times “We live in a ‘yes’ culture, where it’s expected that the person who is going to get ahead is the go-getter who says yes to everything that comes their way”. Don’t use the little free time you have to make plans – learn to say no and put your needs first. In order to achieve work-life balance we must realize that we are the drivers of our life and don’t have the obligation to say yes to everything that comes our way. A lot of this involves listening to our intuition – because it will never steer your wrong.
3. Take 15 Minutes on Sunday’s To Meditate
If you follow us on Instagram, you noticed that on every Sunday we post tips on meditation. One of our favorite quotes by William James says that, “The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another”. It’s hard to focus and be productive when our minds are constantly in a chaotic state. Meditation help us focus and enhances our creativity giving us the ability to perform better in all parts of our lives. We all have things that clutter our minds – family obligations, our businesses, relationships, finances etc. Overtime it all can become overwhelming and can make us less efficient in both our business and personal lives. All you need to start is to carve out 15 minutes and follow these steps:
-Make it a habit.
-Commit to 5 to 7 minutes daily, more in time.
-Go to a private place where you will not be disturbed.
-Gather your tools; a journal, inspiring book, poem or spiritual text.
4. Get a business coach
Business coaches can help us stay in-check with our work and life responsibilities. A coaching relationship taps into your passions and holds you accountable for achieving them. Here at Urbanpreneur we go beyond what is typically considered business or personal coaching- we introduce you to spiritual principles for everyday living. These ideas are steeped in ancient wisdoms. We use, mind body awareness, meditation, and affirmative success technique. Our process help you to change the neuropathways blocking you and releases thought patterns that have been obstacles to your success.
When you work with us, you get a community focused on supporting one another. We strive to create a place where consciously creative and hard -working people can learn how to manifest success and maintain self-motivation. We help you create a business plan based on intentional action rather than goals that will increase your wellbeing. At Urbanpreneur we believe you can succeed and live a fulfilled life.
5. Surround Yourself with Those Who Make You Feel Loved
We feed off people’s energy and it’s important we stay intentional about who we keep around our space. Each of us radiates energy and is capable of being influenced by the energy of other people. Whether it is a friend who always drains us or the family member who only speaks to us when they need something, being around certain people can drain our energy. Learning to shield from bad energy will help you feel more balanced and able to truly enjoy the time we spend with friends and family. Make it a point to spend more time with people that make you feel like you can conquer the world.
Finally, always remember that our businesses are a big part of our lives, but they are not our entire lives. It’s important to find a satisfying balance between work and play because it can help you get the most out of your life. Being an entrepreneur can at times be challenging and stressful but one that we must learn how to manage if we are to enjoy the journey.
