Are you looking to hire a business coach? Perhaps you’ve decided to start a business, or you’ve already launched and need to get past that initial plateau.
Regardless of where you’re at on your journey, there’s a lot to consider when hiring a business coach. Is it an online only program? Or do you want that one-on-one attention? Is it a 9 month long traditional academic setting, or a 6 week or weekend workshop? Do they charge up front, or can you afford their monthly payment program?
Trying to decide what kind of business coaching is best for you can be challenging, especially as you factor in all of your other expenses (like a website, business cards, marketing, etc.).
While we offer our own in-house business coaching services, the Urbanpreneur Community was launched as a free resource to help new business owners worldwide achieve lasting, abundant success. As such, below we’ve outlined the 3 things to prepare for in advance of business coaching, no matter who you decide to hire.
3 THINGS TO PREPARE FOR WHEN HIRING A BUSINESS COACH:
Are you ready to put yourself out there and serve?
In the initial planning stages of your business it’s easy to imagine yourself serving clients or customers, and taking in endless deposits and payments. But the reality of it happening in real life can be another story. More times than not, we’ve seen clients clam up at the thought of face-to-face sales. For good reason of course, it can be incredibly scary! Yet for a coach to be successful in assisting you with external matters, you must be ready to work past everything that keeps you hidden from those you’re here to serve.
Are you ready to do the real work required of you?
Which brings us to number two. The “real” work required of us is most often internal. Stubborn emotional and mental blocks are what hold us back, and if we’re not prepared to face them ourselves, a business coach (or any consultant for that matter) won’t be able to help either. To allow for the creative forces within you to come about and assist you as necessary, you must be ready to remove what’s in the way. Blaming others is a no-go. Your coach is a guide, but the work (and rewards) belong to you.
Are you ready to succeed?
This might like seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised to know that most people don’t fear failure – they fear the consequences of success. “What will people think of you when you’re a millionaire?” Your ego might ask. “Who do you think you are to shine?” By achieving everything you’ve ever wanted, all of a sudden your whole world shifts, and suddenly there’s all these surprisingly uncomfortable feelings involved. For some of us, it’s too much to deal with, so we keep ourselves comfortably in the safe space of mediocrity or excellence. But when we’re truly ready to succeed, and understand that we’re here to serve – to support ourselves, our families and communities – the ego has no place, and we’re prepared to deal with it head on.
