Hello and welcome!
I’m Zina Kacha, founder of Urbanpreneur.
Empowered by 40+ years of experience and a team of fellow passionate entrepreneurs, I’ve created a platform for urban business owners — like you!— to collaborate, learn and grow their businesses.
Serial Entrepreneur + Business Specialist
Throughout my career I’ve had the pleasure of building, operating and selling over 10 successful businesses, including co-owning several restaurants, running multiple family businesses, and managing a healthcare technology company I founded with my wife over 15 years ago.
I’ve also worked as an organization development specialist, helping fortune 500 companies across various industries improve their operations and actualize their visions.
A Heartbreaking Experience Turned to Gold
A San Diego native, my journey started at 17, working for one of my family’s pizzerias on 44th and University. The year was 1979, and the neighborhood was filled with mom and pop shops, retired military, elderly and blue collar trades people.
It was a thriving business community for everyday people — until the day we received our first notice of eminent domain.
One by one, the properties of local residents and business owners were seized by federal and state coalitions in order to expand the 15 freeway, and make way for large corporations to take over.
It was heartbreaking to watch my family’s business close, and my local neighborhood turn bleak — stripped of its resources, sense of community, and power.
Determined to make something good of this haunting experience, I went on to earn degrees in Psychology and Organizational Development; spending the greater part of my life helping businesses not just grow — but thrive. Maximizing their true potential.
The Urban Renaissance
Looking back now, I realize my family and their fellow community business owners were the original urbanpreneurs; Entrepreneurs who created opportunity utilizing the resources they had, within the community they lived.
Despite living in different areas across the US, throughout the years I always knew that one day I would return to the urban center of San Diego, ready to put my experiences and valuable insights to use.
After 15 years at my start up company, in 2017 I decided to step down, launch Urbanpreneur from our hub in Hillcrest, and fulfill my life’s true calling: Helping urban business owners transform their ideas to real life success!
